Ashwini Vaishnaw Launches Qualcomm’s 2 nm Chip in Bengaluru, Signals India’s Deep-Tech Push
Union Minister for Electronics & IT Ashwini Vaishnaw on Monday launched Qualcomm’s 2 nanometre (nm) semiconductor chip, marking a key milestone in advanced chip design and highlighting India’s expanding role in the global semiconductor ecosystem.
Addressing the event, the minister said India is well positioned to lead deep-tech innovation as the world enters the 5th Industrial Revolution. “The entire world is looking at us with hope because of the huge talent we have. The next level of achievement will come from India,” he said.
Vaishnaw noted that 10 semiconductor units are under construction across the country, with four already in pilot production and nearing commercial rollout. He also highlighted the growing talent base, with over 315 universities now using global Electronic Design Automation tools to train students in chip design.
Under India Semiconductor Mission 2.0, the government will focus on supporting design startups, building a complete domestic manufacturing ecosystem, and strengthening advanced skills through industry-academia collaboration.
The launch underscores India’s ambition to become a global hub for semiconductor design, manufacturing and innovation.
