Mahindra University’s Centre for Life Sciences has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Boltzmann Labs, an AI-driven biotechnology and drug discovery company, marking a significant step towards fostering academia–industry collaboration in emerging areas such as computational biology, AI-driven drug discovery, and life sciences innovation.

The partnership aims to create a robust collaborative framework that integrates academic research, industry expertise, and experiential learning opportunities for students and researchers. Boltzmann Labs is known for leveraging artificial intelligence and data-driven platforms to accelerate various stages of drug discovery and biomedical research.

Under the MoU, both institutions will collaborate on joint research initiatives in areas of mutual interest, co-advertise and supervise doctoral candidates on relevant research problem statements, and jointly offer specialized courses for Mahindra University students. The collaboration will also include the organization of workshops and certificate programs for students, research scholars, faculty members, and industry professionals.

Dr Yajulu Medury, Vice Chancellor, Mahindra University said, “This MoU reflects Mahindra University’s commitment to building a future-ready research ecosystem where academic rigor meets real-world application. By partnering with Boltzmann Labs, we are enabling our students and researchers to engage with cutting-edge domains such as AI-driven drug discovery and computational life sciences. This collaboration is aligned with our larger vision of nurturing leadership-enabled learners who can translate knowledge into meaningful societal and scientific impact.”

A key highlight of the partnership is the provision for extending instrumentation facilities in a mutually beneficial manner, enabling researchers and faculty from both institutions to access advanced tools and infrastructure to support interdisciplinary research. The MoU further outlines joint publication of research papers, internship and placement opportunities for students, and co-development of academic and research programs aligned with real-world scientific challenges.

“This partnership will significantly enhance our research capabilities and academic offerings. Joint supervision of doctoral candidates, shared instrumentation facilities, and collaborative research publications will help create a strong translational research environment. Most importantly, it will provide our students with hands-on exposure to industry-relevant problem statements and advanced scientific methodologies,” said Dr Rajinder Singh Chauhan, Professor and Dean, Centre for Life Sciences, Mahindra University.

Through this collaboration, the two institutions will jointly organize workshops, certificate programs, and academic engagements designed to bridge the gap between theoretical learning and practical application. The initiative is also expected to strengthen internship and placement pathways, giving students direct exposure to industry-driven research in life sciences and biotechnology.

The partnership reinforces the growing importance of AI in life sciences research, particularly in drug discovery and biomedical innovation, where advanced computational tools are increasingly being used to accelerate research outcomes and improve efficiency across the pharmaceutical lifecycle.

By combining Mahindra University’s academic expertise with Boltzmann Labs’ industry-led innovation in AI and biotechnology, the MoU is poised to create a collaborative ecosystem that advances research, learning, and real-world impact in the life sciences domain.
