Nokia dominates India’s OLT market: OMDIA

New Delhi — Nokia on Tuesday shared the findings of a study conducted by Omdia which revealed that it holds the dominant position in the Indian optical line terminal (OLT) market in 2022.

According to OMDIA Broadband Access Intelligence Service Chief Analyst Julie Kunstler: “Fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) deployments in developing countries are presenting a significant opportunity for PON equipment vendors. Nokia captured this opportunity in 2021 and 2022 as the leading OLT vendor in India with more than 70% market share.”

Nokia’s market share in optical network terminal (ONT) technology was 20% in India as per the same study.

India’s demand for high-capacity broadband connectivity has surged tremendously. This is due to the increase in remote work, digitalisation of industries, and new use cases. Fiber connectivity is now a top priority for both fixed and mobile operators in India. Most of the demand is for fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) connections. However, there is also demand for transport networks to support mobile operators’ 5G deployments.

A Nokia press release said: “Indian service providers benefit from the increased availability of Nokia’s existing Lightspan FX product lines, as well as upcoming next-generation GPON access nodes which offer smaller low-density OLTs to suit a range of conditions and requirements.”

“Nokia is at the forefront in the evolution of PON Technology. Receiving independent verification of our leadership position of OLT technology from Omdia is deeply satisfying and we take immense pride in contributing to the digital transformation of India,” Nokia Fixed Networks RBC India Head Santiswarup Tripathy said.
