Network slicing is an advanced 5G technology that enables telecom operators to create multiple virtual networks on a single physical infrastructure. Each “slice” can be customized to meet the specific performance requirements of different applications, such as autonomous vehicles, industrial automation, healthcare, and smart cities.

According to COAI, the technology has already been rolled out in major global markets including the United States, Singapore, China, and several countries across Europe. The association noted that the launch of the capability by one of India’s telecom operators demonstrates the country’s growing ability to adopt cutting-edge communications technologies alongside the world’s most advanced digital economies.

“We welcome the introduction of 5G network slicing capabilities in India, marking an important milestone in the evolution of next-generation digital infrastructure,” Kochhar said.

He added that with continued innovation and investment, India is well positioned not only to keep pace with global developments in 5G but also to emerge as a leader in advanced telecommunications capabilities.

COAI said the development underscores the telecom industry’s commitment to accelerating the adoption of transformative technologies that can unlock new use cases and support the country’s broader digital ambitions.
