Reliance to Build India-First AI Platforms, Applications Across Sectors

Reliance Industries will develop India-first artificial intelligence (AI) platforms and applications for consumers, enterprises and government, Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani announced on Tuesday, outlining the conglomerate’s strategy to build a sovereign AI ecosystem.

Speaking at the company’s 49th Annual General Meeting (AGM), Ambani said India must accelerate efforts to become self-reliant in critical technologies, particularly AI.

“India should not remain a consumer of AI built elsewhere. We must become a creator, adopter and a global leader in AI,” he said.

Calling for greater technological self-reliance, Ambani said the country must intensify efforts to achieve “Atmanirbhar” status in critical technologies and resources.

“Maximum energy and AI self-sufficiency must become a national mission,” he said.

Reliance had unveiled Reliance Intelligence last year as its next growth engine, with plans to build a profitable AI infrastructure, platforms and services business at scale. Ambani said the company has now moved from vision to execution with the support of global technology partnerships.

“Reliance Intelligence promises AI to everyone, everywhere, and we shall deliver on this promise too,” he said.

Providing details of the group’s AI roadmap, Jio Platforms Managing Director Akash Ambani said Reliance is building a sovereign, secure and affordable AI ecosystem tailored to India’s scale and linguistic diversity.

The applications will support 22 Indian languages and are designed for everyday use-cases such as helping small businesses, improving healthcare decision-making, enabling personalised education and assisting farmers with crop planning, weather insights and income optimisation.

He announced that Reliance Intelligence will launch a suite of AI-native applications, including Jio Bharat IQ, AI Vyapar, Jio Health IQ, Jio Learn IQ and Jio Krishi IQ.

“Each of these services is designed around one simple principle — AI must be easy to use, trusted to rely on, and affordable for all,” Akash Ambani said.

He added that, unlike many global AI platforms that are developed in English and later translated, Jio is building AI natively in Indian languages to provide a more natural user experience.

Reliance is also integrating AI across its businesses, including AI-native network management at Jio, AI-driven merchandising and supply chain optimisation at Reliance Retail, multilingual content creation across its media businesses, and process optimisation in its oil-to-chemicals operations to improve yields and reduce energy consumption.

On the infrastructure front, Akash Ambani said the company is building India’s sovereign AI backbone at Jamnagar, powered entirely by renewable energy generated from Reliance’s clean energy facilities in Kutch.

He said the first 120 megawatts of AI computing capacity will be commissioned by the end of 2026. Reliance is also deploying an initial fleet of advanced Nvidia GB300 GPUs, with computing capacity equivalent to more than 75,000 Nvidia H100 GPUs for AI inference. The infrastructure will be scalable to over 200,000 H100-equivalent GPUs as the first phase becomes fully operational, making it one of the country’s largest AI computing facilities.
