Goes live with Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) tolling operations to enable seamless transit on the high-density Delhi-Jaipur corridor

Jio Payments Bank Limited (JPBL), a digital-first payments bank and a subsidiary of Jio Financial Services Limited (JFSL), today announced the commencement of tolling operations under the FASTag Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR)-based Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) project at Manoharpura Fee Plaza on National Highway (NH) 48 in Rajasthan.

The development follows the contract awarded to JPBL by Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL) in October 2025 for managing toll processing under India’s pilot MLFF project across two toll plazas, Shahjahanpur and Manoharpura, between Gurugram and Jaipur. The commencement of operations at the Manoharpura Fee Plaza marks a significant milestone in the bank’s active deployment of smart, infrastructure-linked financial services. Located on a vital section of NH-48 along the busy Delhi–Jaipur route, the plaza is now fully live and engineered to seamlessly handle an expected annual volume of close to 8.8 million vehicles.

On this key transit route, JPBL is managing a connected corridor spanning 100 km from Shahjahanpur to Manoharpura, and 34 km between Manoharpura to Daulatpur.

The MLFF tolling system represents a paradigm shift toward completely barrierless vehicular movement on India’s national highways. By integrating advanced ANPR and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technologies, the system accurately identifies, classifies, and processes user fees while vehicles maintain highway speeds, removing the need to stop or slow down for physical toll gates.

The adoption of MLFF tolling is expected to generate significant economic benefits through reduced travel times, lower fuel consumption, improved fleet utilisation, and enhanced freight movement efficiency. The anticipated efficiency gains are expected to bring down logistics costs, while improving national competitiveness and sustainability outcomes.

Vinod Easwaran, Managing Director & CEO, Jio Payments Bank Limited, said: “The commencement of MLFF tolling operations at Manoharpura marks an important milestone in Jio Payments Bank’s expanding role in India’s mobility payments ecosystem. As highway infrastructure becomes increasingly digital, we are focused on supporting efficient, technology-enabled toll processing solutions that improve commuter convenience and strengthen India’s digital public infrastructure journey. The transition to barrierless tolling represents a transformative shift in how mobility infrastructure is managed and monetised in India. By enabling seamless vehicle movement, reducing congestion, lowering fuel consumption, and improving logistics efficiency, MLFF will contribute significantly towards reducing transportation costs and enhancing national productivity.”

For the end-to-end implementation and management of this project, JPBL has leveraged synergies with Jio Platforms Limited (JPL), which is the central Project Manager overseeing execution, while the core software architecture and advanced instrumentation have been deployed by Tecsidel India Private Limited.

Debasish Debsikdar, Senior Vice President & Business Unit Head – Transportation, Traffic & Tolling, Jio Platforms Limited, said: “India’s transition towards MLFF tolling is not merely a technology upgrade—it is a strategic national transformation that aligns with the Government of India’s vision of building a digitally connected, efficient, and globally competitive transportation ecosystem. As India moves towards barrierless tolling and future Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS)-based pay-per-use road charging, the convergence of digital connectivity, cloud infrastructure, intelligent transportation systems, and secure payment platforms will become critical national enablers. We are uniquely positioned to support this transformation through the combined strengths of Jio Payments Bank, Jio’s nationwide digital connectivity infrastructure, cloud and edge computing capabilities, AI-driven platforms, and next-generation devices.”

Building on this milestone, JPBL and the broader ecosystem are well-positioned to support the nationwide rollout of barrierless tolling infrastructure and future GNSS-enabled road pricing initiatives, contributing to India’s digital infrastructure transformation, enabling safer, smarter, greener, and more efficient transportation networks across the country.
