India’s Emerging Creative Talent Meets Industry, Innovation and the Future of Design

World University of Design (WUD), India’s first university dedicated to creative education, successfully concluded the latest edition of its flagship MIW (Made in WUD) Design Week, transforming its Sonipat campus into a vibrant hub of creativity, innovation, and industry collaboration. The immersive week-long showcase brought together emerging talent from diverse creative fields including design, fashion, architecture, visual arts, communication, and allied disciplines, creating a vibrant platform that celebrated interdisciplinary learning, forward-looking design ideas, and industry-driven innovation under one roof.

Held from May 18 to 22, MIW 2026 showcased the work of 319 graduating students from Design, Fashion, Architecture, Visual Arts, Communication, Business and allied creative disciplines. The event featured awork developed over months of intensive engagement with industry, communities and emerging technologies.

Throughout the week, WUD’s studios, galleries and exhibition spaces functioned as a live creative laboratory. Industry leaders, recruiters, entrepreneurs, artists, architects, designers and parents interacted directly with students, many of whom presented projects rooted in real-world challenges and developed through live briefs, sponsored collaborations and research-led inquiry.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Sanjay Gupta, Vice Chancellor of the World University of Design, said: “MIW has steadily evolved into far more than a design week. It has become a meeting ground between academia, industry and the future. What excites me most is that our students are no longer thinking within narrow disciplinary silos. They understand that the future of the creative economy lies in convergence – between technology and craft, design and business, digital and physical experiences, sustainability and innovation. That confidence and adaptability are visible across the work showcased here.”

The week concluded with an Awards Ceremony recognising outstanding projects across disciplines for innovation, social relevance, technical excellence and creative originality.

Over the years, MIW has emerged as one of India’s most distinctive graduate showcases, not only because of the quality of student work, but because of the ecosystem it creates – one where education, industry and culture actively engage with each other.

As India’s creative economy continues to expand across sectors such as fashion, gaming, animation, digital experiences, retail, communication, mobility and spatial design, MIW 2026 offered an important reminder that the next generation of creative professionals is already beginning to shape that future.

World University of Design continues to position itself at the forefront of interdisciplinary creative education in India, nurturing graduates who are equally comfortable with imagination, technology, entrepreneurship and social responsibility.
